Bundesumweltministerin Steffi Lemke eröffnet heute gemeinsam mit Bundeslandwirtschaftsminister Cem Özdemir und der Exekutivsekretärin des UN-Übereinkommens über die biologische Vielfalt (CBD), Elisabeth Mrema, den diesjährigen BMUV-Agrarkongress. Klimakrise, Artenaussterben und Umweltbelastungen bedrohen die natürlichen Lebensgrundlagen und gefährden damit auch die Landwirtschaft immer stärker. Die Auswirkungen des Angriffskrieges Russlands gegen die Ukraine zeigen noch einmal deutlicher, wie verletzlich unsere Agrar- und Ernährungssysteme sind. Umweltschutz und Landwirtschaft müssen daher zusammen gedacht werden. Ein besonderes Augenmerk gilt in diesem Jahr dem Bodenschutz als Voraussetzung für eine nachhaltige Landwirtschaft und Ernährung.
Federal Environment and Consumer Protection Minister Steffi Lemke: “At the World Conference on Nature in Montreal we put up a protective umbrella for our livelihoods. This must now be implemented, also in our agricultural landscapes. Preserving biodiversity, protecting the climate, keeping water, soil and air clean – all of this also benefits agriculture and our food security. Times of crisis in particular require the environment and agriculture to close ranks. This includes halving nutrient surpluses and the use and risk of pesticide use by 2030, making agriculture more resilient through ecological approaches and production methods and promoting the protection of soil as a natural basis for life with a large biological diversity, especially with targeted measures of natural climate protection. In this way we are tackling the interconnected ecological crises together and ensuring sustainable and crisis-proof agriculture.”
